East of Broken Hill as the land flattened out, the straight stretch of road seemed longer, and the sun seemed to beat down more fiercely.
There is nothing more beautiful than a sunset over the dusty vastness of the flat, treeless plains that seem to stretch on forever.
It felt like we were on the edge of the world as we drank a toast to the setting sun!

The vibrant colours that changed with the light, the natural amphitheatre of Wilpena Pound, the rocky mountain ranges, craggy outcrops and ancient cliffs are all part of this majestic Flinders Ranges National Park, or ‘Ikara’ as it is known to the Adnyamathanha people, the traditional owners of this land – ‘Ikara’ meaning ‘Meeting Place’.
